My city Swabi

Swabi lies between the Indus and Kabul rivers, in the north west frontier (NWFP) of Pakistan. Majorit Yousafzai clan of Pathans have been living here for centuries. The History and culture of the Swabi is very rich. The late historian Roshan Khan Baba from this region wrote a book entitled the "History of Yousafzai tribe". A well known Captain of the Pakistan army Karnal Sher Khan belonged to this region. He was involved in the Kargil War and was killed in action. He was awarded Pakistan's highest Military Honour the Nishan-e-Haider. People in Swabi are well educated.Today many people from this region are found in different parts of the world, but mostly in UK. They have unique characteristics of modern life but within Islam. The People of Swabi are famous for their hospitality and a "romantic" people, they are fair in complexion with rugged expressions as most Mountain People in Pakistan appear.

Swabi is a huge market for the tobacco while the other cash crops are vegetables, wheat, sugar cane and maze. Apart from these all sorts of fruits are found here.

The famous Tarbela Dam and electricity power house is located in Swabi.

Swabi is also the house to one of the most prestigious institutes of the country namely Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology in the town of Topi.

Swabi is located in the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan. It is a big a district with beautiful mountains and the mighty Indus (Abaseen) running through it, irrigating its fertile land. As God Almighty has blessed Swabi with fertile land, most of the people are associated with agriculture. Wheat, Sugar Cane, Tobacco and Maize are main agricultural products especially the Tobacco is of very good quality and leading national and multinational tobacco companies have their factories and warehouses built here. Lately, more and more people are going abroad for jobs and are sending a good amount of foreign exchange home thus directly contributing to the economy of Pakistan. Their favorite destinations are Japan, UAE, Saudi Arabia and United Kingdom. Apart from agriculture, Swabi is also rich with mineral resources and its white marble is very popular throughout the country.

People: Before partition, Hindus also lived here and most of the businesses were owned by them. Both Muslims and Hindus lived peacefully. After partition, the Hindus left for India and now the whole population is Pakhtun and belongs to the Yousafzai tribe of pakhtuns. The area from swat in the north to the banks of river Kabul in Nowshera District is inhabited by the Yousafzais. They originally came from Afghanistan and settled here.
